There's plenty percolating around the NHL as we inch towards the December trade freeze
- The Senators continue to explore the trade market in a bid to shake up a roster that is once again struggling with the defensive side of the game. The Sens are believed to be dangling centerman Josh Norris on the trade market, but his contract and injury history make him a tougher move to make. Rumblings suggest particular trade talks between the Senators and Flyers are ongoing. The Senators are rumoured to have kicked tires on Blue Jackets pending UFA blueliner Ivan Provorov as well.
- David Jiricek Watch continues, with reports suggesting a trade could be near. The Wild and Penguins remain frontrunners, with several other teams believed to be in the mix. The Canadiens, Canucks, Sharks, Sabres and Flyers have shown varying degrees of interest. Columbus is under no obligation to make a move until it gets the offer it wants, but all sides would like a resolution as soon as possible.
- The Avalanche insist that they're confident in their goalie mix, but not everyone is convinced. It's believed they've explored the idea of Dan Vladar as an option, in addition to Mackenzie Blackwood and John Gibson. They could have competition from other teams looking for goalie stability, such as the Hurricanes.
- Plenty of chatter around the Penguins core, but one player that hasn't been talked about as much is veteran winger Bryan Rust. It's believed there's interest in Rust as a secondary scoring option for contending teams. The three years remaining on his contract could be a stumbling block, but his $5.1 million dollar cap hit should be easier to stomach as the salary cap rises.
