Interested teams are starting to surface as the Blue Jackets' bid to move on from defensive prospect David Jiricek intensifies
- David Jiricek Watch is kicking into overdrive as the Blue Jackets look to finally move on from their prized defensive prospect, who has wanted a trade out of town for close to a year. Despite being selected 6th overall in 2022, Jiricek has struggled to find his way in an organization that his camp believes hasn't given him a fair shot at a job in the NHL.
- Perhaps there is more to the Jiricek story in Columbus than meets the eye, because it's not common for a team to want to move a top 10 draft pick this early in their career even if they've asked for a trade. Jiricek has top pairing potential, and many GMs around the league appear eager to make a deal with that in mind.
- Among the teams rumoured to be knocking down GM Don Waddell's door for a chance at Jiricek are the Wild, Flyers and Penguins. The Wild are considered by some to be a frontrunner, but that all could change as the bidding war intensifies.
- There is some belief that the Penguins have already made their best pitch and have thus far been rebuffed. Also rumoured to be keeping tabs on the situation are the Sharks and Sabres. It's believed trade talks intensified over the past few days, so a resolution could come in short order. More to come.
