A renewed effort to trade Patrik Laine appears on the brink of paying some dividends.
- Reports suggest Laine, the disgruntled Blue Jackets winger who has requested a trade out of Columbus, is on the brink of being traded to the Montreal Canadiens. UPDATE: Laine has been traded with a 2nd round pick for Canadiens defenseman Jordan Harris.
- It was believed Laine would have to wait for a trade at some point during the season, with plenty of questions about his health and ability to play at the highest level. Will he get that chance in Montreal sooner than expected? It would appear so.
- Laine's $8.7 million dollar cap hit over the next two seasons is onerous, but the player oozes talent and is still a relatively young 26 years of age. Among the other teams that kicked tires on Laine were the Kraken and Hurricanes.
