NHL Rumour Report: Leafs prepared to trade Nylander; two frontrunners for DeBrincat + more

William Nylander's time in Toronto could soon be coming to an end; the Alex DeBrincat sweepstakes could be down to two teams and more.

- The Alex DeBrincat sweepstakes continue to take shape, with all indications suggesting the Senators are likely to pull the trigger on a deal some time in the next few days. Rumoured to be at or near the front of the pack for the young winger are the Stars and Red Wings. The Blues, Golden Knights, Panthers and Predators have been rumoured as potential fits as well.

- There is some chatter that the Ducks are eyeing Milan Lucic in free agency. He would certainly add a veteran toughness that the team may have lacked at times last year, and shouldn't be too expensive to sign.

- Quiet rumblings have begun to suggest the Leafs are ready and willing to trade William Nylander if a contract extension isn't hammered out quickly this summer. Multiple reports suggest GM Brad Treliving is uneager to let contract negotiations drag out far beyond the start of free agency and into training camp. Nylander's name has swirled in the rumour mill for years, with the player himself at times expecting to be dealt. The two sides are expected to get down to brass tacks in the coming days.

- Reports also suggest Nylander's camp is ready to play hardball in negotiations, much like they did coming out of his entry level deal. The Leafs would like to extend Nylander and the feeling is mutual, but business could very well throw a wrench into that. Among the teams that are watching and waiting to see what the Leafs do with Nylander are the Avalanche. Should be a fascinating few weeks.
