A major decision by the Pittsburgh Penguins ownership group is believed to be imminent.
- Just a quick hit here: the Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to make some very big decisions about their team moving forward in the coming days.
- After bombing out of the playoff picture in a season marred by injuries and inconsistency, are eyes are on what the Pens do next.
- Many around the NHL believe GM Ron Hextall's days may be numbered, as may President Brian Burke's. We could know the answer soon, as new ownership looks to put its stamp on the franchise immediately. That decision has been expedited by the Pens' failure to even qualify for the playoffs.
- Nothing is likely to be off the table this summer. Management, players and coaches are all under the microscope. With an aging core locked up for the foreseeable future, the task of kicking the Pens' playoff window open again will not be easy. Tristan Jarry couldn't stay healthy and is now a pending UFA. The bottom six struggled to produce. The team looked slow, and the core isn't getting any younger.
- In the coming days we will get a better picture of which way this is going. Pittsburgh is likely to want a new group in place as soon as possible - if that is the direction they take - to prepare for the draft, free agency and in-house contract negotiations. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: The Penguins have fired GM Ron Hextall and President Brian Burke. More moves expected to follow.
