NHL Rumour Report: Tkachuk trade suitors emerge as rumours swirl

With Johnny Gaudreau already out the door, Tkachuk appears set to follow suit.

- Matthew Tkachuk rumours have swirled in Calgary for months, with many believing the American winger is eager to test the free agent market in 2023.

- He may not get that far, with reports suggesting the Flames are looking to move Tkachuk forthwith. The player has informed Flames management that he has no desire to sign long-term in Calgary, paving the way to a trade. Calgary may have no choice but to make one happen with club-elected salary arbitration looming in the coming weeks - and a ruling that would lock in Tkachuk on a one year deal in Calgary. After losing Gaudreau for nothing, the Flames need to salvage some value here.

- Among the list of teams that have linked to Tkachuk are the Blues, Bruins and Sabres. Calgary is likely to get the best package from a team that can get Tkachuk signed to a long term contract, but are under no obligation to send him to his destination of choice.

- Among the other speculated landing spots are a number of low-tax American state teams, such as Vegas, Florida, Nashville and Dallas, but we're still in the preliminary guesswork stage of this. Obviously, the Tkachuk family has strong roots in St. Louis; could a deal involving Vladimir Tarasenko or a package of young assets make it work? Some have even suggested Ottawa - where brother Brady is signed long term - but the belief is that Matthew intends to head south of the border.

- Reports suggest a deal could get done in the coming days. Stay tuned.
