The Jets will have to fish or cut bait with their star centerman this offseason.
- Expect the Pierre-Luc Dubois rumour mill to gain steam in the coming weeks and months.
- The Jets star pivot is high on the franchise's priority list in contract extension talks, but there are growing rumblings that Dubois may not wish to commit long term to the team that traded for him in 2021 for Patrik Laine.
- Both players, Laine and Dubois, have seen their names in plenty of rumour columns over the last few months. Both are demanding massive pay raises from their respective franchise, and neither seem entirely committed to sticking around long term. That's how it appears on the surface, at least.
- Among the teams that have been linked to Dubois over the past few years are the LA Kings, New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens. Dubois has reportedly wished to play in a big market for a contending team dating back to his time in Columbus. Could Montreal, who have reportedly pursued Dubois for years, convince the 23 year old Quebec native to be a part of their long term plans?

- Dubois is an RFA with arbitration rights, giving him plenty of leverage over a Winnipeg franchise that isn't quite sure of which direction they're going this offseason. After a disappointing 2021-2022 campaign, several big names, including Mark Scheifele, Connor Hellebuyck and Blake Wheeler have seen their names surface in the rumour mill.
- Obviously, not all of them are getting shipped out right away, if at all. These are franchise altering deals that GM Kevin Cheveldayoff will be patient on. But if Dubois plays hardball this summer, there's a decent chance he's one of the first out the door.
