NHL Rumour Report: Jonathan Toews frontrunner link strengthens

The Jonathan Toews sweepstakes have just begun, but the rumours are already intensifying.

- Signs continue to point towards a parting of ways between Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks.

- With one year left on his deal and the Blackhawks declaring the start of a rebuild, Toews has expressed his eagerness to consider a change of address.

- Whispers over the past month or so have linked Toews to the Bruins. That link appears to be strengthening by the week.

- Reports now suggest the Blackhawks would be willing to considering eating half of Toews remaining one year salary of $10.5 million to give the Bruins the second line center they have sought since the departure of David Krejci.

- That would give Boston a one-two punch down the middle of Selke winners. Hard to beat that.

- Of course, Toews is going to be given plenty of time this summer to mull over his future. It has not been easy for Toews or Patrick Kane to wrap their minds around a trade after an incredible decade plus run in Chicago.

- And there's no doubt that Boston will have company in pursuit of Toews. Plenty of track left to be ran, but it appears we have an early frontrunner in what will make for a compelling storyline in the coming months.
