NHL Rumour Report: Giroux negotiations hit snag; two teams still bidding

Quick Friday Giroux update.

- With the Claude Giroux sweepstakes all but wrapped up, many are wondering why a trade hasn't happened yet.

- As of Thursday, the Florida Panthers were believed to be a slam dunk to land the pending UFA forward. And they still probably are.

- But reports suggest Philadelphia has received a better offer from Colorado and are asking the Panthers to improve their package.

- Rumblings yesterday suggested the offer included Owen Tippett, and one or more of Aleksi Heponiemi, Grigori Denisenko and Mackie Samoskevich. But reports today suggest the latter 3 prospects may only have been asked for by Philly but not included in any Florida offer. Owen Tippett remains the centerpiece.

- Nonetheless, the expectation is that the Flyers will ultimately relent and send him to Florida, where he can figure prominently on a top line and first powerplay unit. Part of the snag with Colorado, it is alleged, is the lack of room for Giroux on the Avalanche PP1.

- If it were up to Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher, Giroux would probably be an Av by now. But since Giroux is more or less picking his spot, the Panthers remain heavy favourites.
