NHL Rumour Report: Two teams linked to Patrick Kane

Fire up the Kane rumour mill.

- Though a deal is more likely to happen in the offseason, teams keep calling in hopes of acquiring Patrick Kane before the March 21st trade deadline.

- No decision has been made by Kane or the Blackhawks, but the writing has been on the wall since new GM Kyle Davidson announced the team would be undertaking a traditional rebuild. Kane, now 33, has been loyal to the franchise that took him first overall in 2007, but it's hard to imagine him toiling away on a bottomfeeder for the rest of his prime.

- The two teams which have now been linked to Kane in trade talks are the Rangers and Avalanche. The Avalanche in particular have been trying to convince Chicago to consider a deadline deal. But it's more likely that Davidson and Kane (and Toews) sit down in the offseason to discuss the future.

- Kane comes with a hefty 10.5 million dollar cap hit this season and next. But the number of teams that would jump at the opportunity to pick up a scorer of his calibre will be long nevertheless.

- Kane is definitely in the category of a darkhorse trade candidate at this year's deadline, but we'll be tracking the rumour mill until his future with the team becomes clearer.
