NHL Rumour Report: Jordan Binnington rumour surfaces

A stunning report suggests the Blues are actively shopping of Binnington.

-It's definitely crazy rumour season: a somewhat strange report has surfaced suggesting the Blues are gauging the market value of goaltender Jordan Binnington.

- The veteran netminder is in the first of his six year mega contract with the Blues, but has spent stretches of the year backing up the emergent Ville Husso, who has been touted as an heir apparent dating back to the Jake Allen era.

- This is a a bit of a strange rumour on one hand, as the Blues are all in and could be taking an unnecessary in-season gamble by trading an experienced playoff performer.

-On the other hand, the Blues may be gauging the market to help them decide whether they can or should extend pending UFA Husso. For example, if you get Husso extended before the trade deadline, maybe you feel more comfortable as Blues GM trading Binnington to make room for something else.

- I just don't know about this one. From the hockey side, it's a risk for the Blues. From the business side, it's a risk for the team acquiring the massive contract.

- If Binnington is moved, it feels like more of an offseason move. And I assume that's mostly why the Blues are talking to teams about Binnington - because they're looking ahead to their offseason contract situation before adding any major players term at the deadline.

- And if the rumours that the Blues are kicking tires on players like Ivan Provorov and Jakob Chychrun, there's gotta be some salary going out the door. I wouldn't bank on Binnington moving before Monday, but we'll be keeping a close eye on any further developments.
