NHL Rumour Report: Pavelski, Klingberg, Holtby + rumours surface

Few NHL players could alter the fortunes of a team at this year's deadline more than Joe Pavelski.

- The Stars haven't officially declared their status as a buyer or seller at this year's deadline, but there's plenty percolating behind the scenes.

- Pending UFA Joe Pavelski is garnering plenty of interest from teams around the league, as rumours suggest the star forward is likely to be made available if the Stars fall out of the playoff picture.

- There is also some speculation that the Stars could sell off some assets instead of losing them all to the free agent market, while retaining others in hopes of snagging a playoff berth. Stuck in the middle of the pack, the Stars don't appear to be a Cup contender - although this group pulled off a somewhat surprising run to the finals in 2020.
- Among the teams that have been linked to Pavelski are the Minnesota Wild, although plenty more are likely to surface in the coming weeks.

- Pavelski won't be the only big name available if the Stars become sellers. John Klingberg - who has already asked for a trade - is expected to be moved regardless of where the Stars sit at the deadline. The Hurricanes, Leafs, Rangers and Panthers are rumoured landing spots.

- Braden Holtby - who is slowly being supplanted by Jake Oettinger - could also be out the door. The Oilers have kicked tires.

- Anton Khudobin has also asked for a trade, but his hefty contract could be difficult to move. But he might end up back in the NHL if it's Holtby and not him who gets traded.
- The Stars figure to be a major player at this year's deadline, but whether that's as a buyer, seller, or perhaps a mix of both, has yet to be decided.
