Rumour Report: Three contenders for Taylor Hall emerge

The Taylor Hall sweepstakes are underway with several teams emerging as potential landing spots.

  • As reports emerge suggesting Taylor Hall's camp has little to no interest in signing with the New Jersey Devils before the NHL trade deadline, the overwhelming likelihood is that he is traded. With the Devils floundering in the standings, it would take a major turnaround and a change of heart to get him signed in the next few months. That's not to say he's done in New Jersey - just that he won't decide during the season.

  • Rumblings suggest at least three teams are preparing to make offers and Hall, who is not yet on the trading block. The Blues, Avalanche and Oilers appear to be keenly interested. The Avalanche, in particular, may be looking to hit a major home run this deadline as they hope to break through in the playoffs.
  • The Oilers are another interesting one, considering Hall's tenure ended acrimoniously there just a few years ago. But the Oilers management has since changed, and Hall would surely welcome the opportunity to once again play with two of the best centers in the game in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

  • The Devils don't have to decide for another couple of months, but rumours have long suggested GM Ray Shero would move Hall before the trade deadline if he was unable to get him extended. Having seen John Tavares walk out of Long Island for nothing, Shero knows he needs to get something back for his prized asset.
  • Expect things to heat up in the coming weeks - especially if the Devils continue to sputter.
