Rumour Report: Wild ready for major roster overhaul

Quick update on a developing situation in Minnesota.

  • Fighting for their playoff lives with an aging core, you wouldn't expect the Wild to be anything less than all-in this season. But with captain Mikko Koivu going down to injury, the plan to pull the plug on the season and do a rebuild on the fly appears to be imminent in Minnesota.
  • Among the names who could be shipped out between now and February 25th: Charlie Coyle, Mikael Granlund, Jason Zucker, and Jonas Brodin.
  • Others have suggested that Eric Staal could be moved as well, and considering his pending UFA status and the premium often paid for centers, it makes a lot of sense.

  • Charlie Coyle has been in the rumour mill for most of this season. Boston, Montreal, Ottawa and Buffalo have been linked to Coyle thus far, but most teams in the playoff hunt would probably love to get their hands on a player of his calibre.
  • Jonas Brodin has been in the rumour mill for several years, so it's no surprise to see him in the headlines again. It's believed his name came up in conversations with the Maple Leafs, but that's probably not on the frontburner any more.

  • With the growing number of sellers at this year's deadline, it's hard to see how teams are going to have their prices met. Many great players are available - which could produce an avalanche of trades, but could also tempt some teams to wait until the offseason to make deals on non-rental players.
