Rumour Report: Market heating up as NHL trade deadline looms

Buzz around the league suggests trades could be coming sooner rather than later with the clock ticking towards February 25th.

  • The clock is ticking on the Anaheim Ducks and pending UFA Jakob Silfverberg, who would be a top trade deadline asset if he doesn't resign. It appears to be 50/50 right now, but reports suggest the two sides are working towards a deal. But with time running out the odds of him moving grow, and the Bruins, Sabres and Penguins are all believed to have interest.

  • Rumours continue to point to another pair of Bruins targets: Jeff Carter and Kevin Hayes. Winnipeg, Colorado and Montreal have also been linked to Hayes, while Carter has been connected with Arizona and Nashville. Time will tell whether either are moved - Hayes may stick around for the rebuild, while Carter has expressed a preference to stay in Los Angeles.

  • Prospects are moved in deadline deals every year, but you rarely hear a blue chip prospect like Eeli Tolvanen getting thrown there. Rumours suggest the Predators may consider moving him for the right price. Nashville has been in the thick of the rumour mill, having kicked tires on big names like Michael Ferland, Wayne Simmonds, Mats Zuccarello, Artemi Panarin, Gustav Nyquist and Jeff Carter, so it's no surprise that teams are trying to pry him away.
  • All signs point towards a decision in the next couple of days on Matt Duchene and Mark Stone - do they stay or go? Things appear to be trending towards a trade, but we'll see. Keep an eye on Ottawa's Ryan Dzingel and Cody Ceci as well.
