Rumour Report: Kovalchuk, Toffoli, Zadorov, Dzingel rumours; Leafs next move

The Bruins, Kings, Senators, Avalanche and Leafs are all up to something.

  • Buzz continues to grow around Kings veteran winger Ilya Kovalchuk, who made his way back to the NHL after several seasons in the KHL. With the Kings out of the playoff hunt, Kovie wants another crack at the Stanley Cup. Early rumblings suggest the Islanders and Bruins could be possible landing spots.
  • A few others names coming on the Bruins radar in the past few days: Tyler Toffoli and Ryan Dzingel. With the injury David Pastrnak adding a sense of urgency, the Bruins deadline dealing to could get started sooner rather than later.
  • There hadn't been much buzz around Tyler Toffoli before this week really. In addition to the Bruins, the Blue Jackets are being linked to Toffoli in a possible blockbuster that sends Panarin the other way.

  • With Colorado sliding down the Western conference standings, keep an eye on the name Nikita Zadorov. If the Avs suddenly become sellers, they may look to ship out the pending RFA defenseman. Colorado might do some buying as well, with their sights set on Caps winger Andre Burakovsky.

  • The Maple Leafs have been linked repeatedly to top rentals like Wayne Simmonds and Michael Ferland, but it's more likely they aim a little lower on cheaper depth players. Among the names that have surface in recent days: Kyle Clifford and Luke Glendening. Rumblings of a Hurricanes/Leafs trade won't go away - but it's not clear how the two teams can bridge the divide on the asking price for Brett Pesce of Kasperi Kapanen or Andreas Johnsson. As has been reported before, a package involving Nikita Zaitsev, Connor Brown and prospects in return for Micheal Ferland and Brett Pesce is out there in the rumour mill.
