Big names continue to surface in the NHL rumour mill as trade deadline buyers and sellers start to emerge.
- Though the possibility of an extension hasn't been ruled out entirely, the Red Wings continue to listen on Jimmy Howard. The pending UFA netminder has been with the team since 2005, but might welcome a chance to play on a contender. Howard's name has been out there for a while - the latest rumours linking him to Pittsburgh and St. Louis. Carolina and Calgary could be two other possibilities - they've been connected to him in the past. A first round pick is part of Detroit's rumoured asking price.
- Jonathan Quick and Corey Crawford are two more names to add to the rumour mill. Quiet but loudening rumblings suggest these two former dynasties are ready to turn the page, and could very much move core players like these two goalies.
- Another Blackhawks you're going to see more of in the rumour mill these next few months: Duncan Keith. Though no concrete trade rumours have surfaced yet, his name is out there.
- Rumours continue to swirl around the Toronto Maple Leafs, who appear as active as any team in pursuit of upgrades. On their wish list this holiday season: a right shot defenseman and perhaps some size on the wing. Wayne Simmonds and Michael Ferland are two names that continue to be linked to Toronto, but the preference seems to be to upgrade on the blueline first.
