- 5:35 PM - Looks like all deals that were made before the deadline have been announced with a few minor ones trickling in during the last hour or so. Thoughts on this deadline: lots of quality names moved, but maybe not the quantity we were expecting. There were a lot of sellers; I'm surprised Ottawa and didn't do more. Obviously, the speculation around Erik Karlsson and Mike Hoffman will continue into the summer; the same can be said about Max Pacioretty and Alex Galchenyuk in Montreal. The trade rumour board will remain in tact (and get a big overhaul post-deadline), and the free agency rumour board will be on the way in the coming days. Thanks for following along - these last few weeks have been a ton of fun.
- 2:32 PM - Vanek very likely on the move. He's probably lower on the list for some teams, meaning he's probably at 2:59 PM deal.
- 2:29 PM - Sounds like the Capitals are heavily in on Ryan McDonagh. Tick tock...
- 2:16 PM - Kane to San Jose, is Pacioretty heading out West as well? The Ducks and Kings are rumoured landing spots.
- 2:09 PM - Blues still in on Mike Hoffman.
- 1:11 PM - Anaheim joins a growing list of teams in on Max Pacioretty.
- 1:00 PM - Four teams still in on Evander Kane according to a report.
- 12:25 PM - If the Blues are selling, keep an eye on Vladimir Sobotka as well.
- 12:24 PM - Paul Stastny to the Jets - WOW. The hockey world didn't see this one coming. There were rumblings that the Blues might do some selling after a recent tailspin, but Stastny wasn't on anyone's trade rumour board, NHL Rumour Report's included.
- 12:00 PM - Things heating up around McDonagh - 4 teams reportedly still in the mix, all believed to be in the East. Five Eastern teams have been linked to McDonagh - Toronto, Washington, Tampa, Boston and Florida. It's unclear who the frontrunner is, and who has dropped out.
- 11:45 AM - The Robin Lehner trade request rumour is being refuted now...nonetheless, a player the Sabres will move today if they get the offer they're looking for.
- 11:40 AM - If Nashville lands Hartman, that's another Jets target snatched away from them. They're still in on Maroon, though. I would also think that means Tatar becomes a top target for Calgary.
- 11:26 AM - Some rumours suggesting Robin Lehner has made a trade request. The Sabres probably were going to turn the page anyways, but this will give them a bit more impetus. The Flames and Islanders are two rumoured possibilities.
- 11:24 AM - Teams inquiring on Andrew Shaw includes the Hurricanes and Rangers, but it sounds like at this moment he's staying put.
- 11:06 AM - Four hours left. Erik Karlsson seems to be holding up the market. A lot of teams that are in on Karlsson are waiting to see what happens before they turn to their backup plans. But what if this drags out until the final hour? We could be in for a frantic finish.
- 10:20 AM - Putting two and two together here, but the Leafs are interested in Mike Green, and the Red Wings are interested in Josh Leivo. Obviously Toronto would have to give a lot more than Leivo, but I think if these two teams make a trade today it'll involve those names.
- 10:15 AM - Tomas Tatar has now been linked to Calgary, Nashville and Chicago.
- 10:10 AM ET - Okay. Let's do this. Deadline at 3 PM Eastern.
February 25th
- 3:37 PM ET - Despite adding Plekanec, a lot around the NHL believe the Leafs aren't done. You'd have to think that means blueline upgrades. Toronto has been linked to Ryan McDonagh, Mike Green and Chris Tanev, among other names.
- 2:16 PM ET - The trade deadline sort of feels like it's today, doesn't it? Save some deals for the TV shows tomorrow guys! Action is reportedly picking up around Patrick Maroon and Evander Kane, two of the most sought after wingers on the market.
- 12:49 PM ET - And then there's Max Pacioretty. Does he move before the deadline? Probably, but no guarantee. He has been connected to the Kings in recent days, but the Penguins, Blues, Flames, Panthers, Predators, Sharks and Wild are rumoured possibilities as well.
- 12:45 PM ET - Things seem to be heating up around Ryan McDonagh. The Rangers don't have to move him before the trade deadline, as the summer could offer more options. Nonetheless, several teams realise that if they get McDonagh now, they'll have him for at least two playoff runs. The Capitals, Panthers, Maple Leafs, Lightning, Bruins and Ducks have been linked to McDonagh in recent days.
- 12:39 PM ET - The teams known to be in on Erik Karlsson, so far: Tampa, Vegas, San Jose, Nashville. Tampa might come in with the best offer, but do the Sens want Karlsson to stay in the Atlantic division? Probably not.
- 12:30 PM ET - Tomas Plekanec and Mark Letestu both shipped out; Winnipeg misses on both targets. Who do they turn to now? They've been linked to Patrick Maroon and Ryan Hartman.
- 12:16 PM ET - Winnipeg and Tampa were both rumoured to be in on Plekanec; with Toronto getting him they'll move to their backup plans. Winnipeg has been linked to Mark Letestu. There aren't a ton of rental centermen available after that, though guys like Matt Cullen and Jean-Gabriel Pageau could be available as well.
- 12:04 PM ET - Just over a day to go before the NHL trade deadline. Tons of buzz out there. It's going to get hectic.
- 10:16 PM ET - The trade odds for Erik Karlsson and Max Pacioretty continue to grow, with reports surfacing that both want to be traded before the deadline. Lots of other movers on the trade rumour board.
- 10:05 PM ET - Sounds like Rick Nash might be the next to go; Boston the rumoured destination.
February 23rd
- 3:14 PM ET - Brassard to Pittsburgh is no great shock - no team was pushing harder to improve at center. Those teams looking for pivots will now turn to Tomas Plekanec and Mark Letestu, unless they can pry Jean-Gabriel Pageau away from Ottawa.
- 3:10 PM ET - Three days left.
February 22nd
- 10:42 PM ET - The Devils land Michael Grabner. That's going to leave a lot of teams disappointed. Let's see if this busts open the forward market.
- 5:52 PM ET - Sounds like Vegas might be active at the deadline after all. Reports suggest they've checked in on the top rentals, including Rick Nash and Michael Grabner, as well as Erik Karlsson.
- 3:07 PM ET - Check out the latest Rumour Report here.
- 2:21 PM ET - Teams are pushing hard on Rangers rental forward Michael Grabner today. This is one of those players I feel would genuinely open the floodgates. He was the cheap winger option for a lot of teams who are unwilling to pay the high prices for guys like Nash and Kane. If this gets done, you could see a flurry of activity following it.
- 1:31 PM ET - Luke Glendening to the Leafs still seems to have legs. A pick is likely involved, and Josh Leivo's name has been linked to Detroit as well. Given Glendening's salary, wouldn't the Leafs ask for them to take on Matt Martin (while sweetening the deal)?
- 1:12 PM ET - It's still 50/50 whether Ryan McDonagh moves before the trade deadline, as opposed to sometime in the summer, but trade talks appear to be picking up. The Leafs and Bruins sound to be very much in the mix.
- 1:04 PM ET - 4 days to go. Vast majority of the top trade deadline targets still available.
February 21st
- 8:26 PM ET - Kings swap backups with the Coyotes, sending Darcy Kuemper in return for Scott Wedgewood. They also received Tobias Rieder, which could be a cheap alternative to some of the pricier rental forwards on the market - the Kings have looked at the top guys like Nash and Kane.
- 5:30 PM ET - Nash frontrunners right now appear to be Dallas, Columbus, Winnipeg, Nashville and Boston. Other tire-kickers include Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and St. Louis.
- 5:12 PM ET - The Karlsson story is developing rapidly, with reports that now at least six teams are in talks with Ottawa to acquire the defenseman before the Monday trade deadline.
- 4:16 PM ET - The latest rumour floating around is Alex Edler to Tampa Bay. The Lightning have been linked to just about every defenseman available on the market, so it would be no surprise if they asked about him. Edler has been in rumours continuously over the years.
- 12:27 PM ET - The blueline retool continues for the Capitals as they swap a pick for Montreal's Jakub Jerabek. They waived Taylor Chorney yesterday and acquired Mikael Kempny just two days prior.
- 12:20 PM ET - 5 days to go until the NHL trade deadline.
February 20th
- 10:01 PM ET - The smoke around Erik Karlsson continues to build, where it looks like he probably be traded, but it could also conceivably happen before the NHL trade deadline. The team that keeps coming up in this respect is the Tampa Bay Lightning. Any trade would contain multiple pieces, and would likely include Mikhail Sergachev.
- 5:36 PM ET - Hardly surprising to hear, but a report suggests the Senators would like to offload Bobby Ryan and his burdensome contract.
- 5:20 PM ET - Leafs trade Eric Fehr to the Sharks for a 7th. Fehr was toiling in the AHL; this could be a precursor to a bigger trade by the Leafs who needed to shed a contract.
- 12:25 PM ET - Rangers defenseman Nick Holden traded to the Bruins. First real rental blueliner moved. Let's see if this creates a bit of panic in the rentals market.
- 11:16 AM ET - The Penguins are looking at Avs center Carl Soderberg as a fallback option if they strike out on guys like Derick Brassard and Mark Letestu.
- 11:00 AM ET - Ryan Hartman's name was already on the trade rumour board, albeit near the bottom. A report suggests the Jets have kicked tires, boosting him up to 35% trade odds.
