Rumour Report: Teams ready to make trades pre and post expansion draft

Several trades are expected to be announced later this week as Vegas prepares to flip assets post-expansion draft.

  • There's a growing sense that a number of the players Vegas selects Wednesday night will be off their roster within days. That's because Vegas are using the expansion draft not simply as a way to put together a roster, but to acquire assets for the future.
  • One team believe to be talking trade with Vegas is Toronto. A few rumblings surfaced that the teams were heavily into discussions before the 3pm deadline on Saturday; that appears to have continued. Vegas has made it clear that they will take an abundance of defensemen and likely flip a number of them post-draft. It would make sense if that's what the Leafs were after.

  • Petr Mrazek entered the rumour mill several months ago, so not everyone was surprised when the Red Wings made their young goaltender available in the expansion draft. Rumours suggest the Wings management aren't happy with Mrazek's attitude and inconsistency, so if Vegas pass on him, don't be surprised if he's moved anyway.
  • The Islanders seem poised to make a big move or two post-expansion draft. They're believed to be keying in on several elite forwards, namely Jordan Eberle, Matt Duchene and perhaps Alex Galchenyuk. They may peddle defensemen Travis Hamonic and Calvin de Haan to make it happen. Ryan Strome's name has been in the rumour mill as well, would they be willing to part with their promising young forward?
  • Where might Shane Doan end up in free agency? In the past teams such as the Rangers, Ducks, Kings and Sharks have expressed interest. How many teams are still willing to take a chance on the 40 year old is another question entirely.
