Trade talks appear to be heating up as the Vegas expansion draft looms.
Reports suggest the Golden Knights and Blue Jackets could be working on something big. With the Vegas expansion draft less than two months away, trade talks have started to pick up steam. Teams have been authorized by the NHL to make agreements with Vegas to ensure they take (or avoid taking) a certain player off their roster. Vegas must take one player from each NHL team in a 30 round draft on June 21st.
Rumours over the past year have suggested the Jackets are willing to part with big salary wingers such as Brandon Saad, Nick Foligno, Cam Atkinson and Scott Hartnell, while Jack Johnson may be available as well. Atkinson's performance this year combined with a reasonable cap hit make him an unlikely trade candidate, but that won't prevent Vegas from asking. Columbus have been desperate to shed salary for several seasons, having even gone as far as to listen on Sergei Bobrovsky trade offers last summer.
Vegas is sure to hear plenty of offers from teams desperate to shed salary. Here's a look at how the Vegas expansion draft on will work.
