New names emerge in the rumour mill and the Patrick Sharp sweepstakes begin to gain momentum in this edition of the Rumour Report.
- The Capitals are finally making some noise in the rumour mill. GM Brian MacLellan may look at add another defensemen before the deadline, and they're rumoured to be after a 3rd string goalie as well. Who might they dangle on the market? Stanislav Galiev is apparently on the block.
- Cheap rentals Patrick Eaves and Tomas Jurco are off the board early, which might pave the way for a busy weekend. Other inexpensive wingers such as Thomas Vanek and Radim Vrbata could be on the move soon.
- Sounds like the Canucks have a plan in place for Jannik Hansen if they become sellers before Wednesday. Hansens' camp has given the Canucks a list of 7 teams he would accept a trade to. The Wild and Ducks are among those with interest.
- Teams will come calling on the Maple Leafs' defensive depth regardless of their position in the standings. Roman Polak and Matt Hunwick are generating interest as rentals, but it's not overly likely they move.
- We haven't heard many Patrick Sharp landing spot rumours this year, despite him being on the block. Are the Sharks a potential fit?
- Brendan Smith and the Rangers sounds like a real possibility as well.
- Things sound pretty quiet on the Evander Kane trade front - for now at least. The Ducks and Canucks have been linked to Kane in the past.
- Jaroslav Halak continues to dominate in the AHL as a big fish in a small pond. Will anyone take a chance on him at the deadline? With another year on his contract, there won't be too much of a market.
