Six days to go. New names surface and an old rumour is rekindled in today's Rumour Report.
- The Islanders are reportedly in serious pursuit of a number two center. Among the targets to fill that role is Matt Duchene, but speculation points to Tyler Johnson as a good fit too. It makes some sense, given the impending cap crunch the Lightning face this offseason, and a growing sentiment that they may have to trade Johnson or another key forward. As long as Tampa hangs around in the playoff mix, this probably wouldn't get done until the summer.
- The Isles apparently have their eye on a pair of Oilers as well - Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. While these rumours aren't exactly new, their resurfacing just before the trade deadline is intriguing. It would be a fairly big surprise if the Oilers wanted to trade either during the season, but the offseason could be another story.
- The Habs seem poised to make moves in the final week before the trade deadline. Not all of them will be big, though: reports indicate the Canadiens are willing to deal depth defensemen Greg Pateryn. Montreal looks to be one of the primary buyers at this year's deadline, with reports linking them to Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Alex Burrows, Patrik Berglund and Martin Hanzal.
