New frontrunners for Vesey? Bruins shakeup could be looming; Leafs backup hunt + more

Has there been a shift in the race for pending free agent Jimmy Vesey?

Depends who you ask. According to one analyst, he race has been trimmed down to Detroit, Toronto and Chicago. Others believe Vesey still weighing all his options, which includes New Jersey and Pittsburgh, but is leaning towards Boston. The Sabres have thus far been unsuccessful in signing Vesey, and may look to trade his negotiating rights ahead of the August 15th deadline.

- The search for backup goalies continues for the Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks. The Leafs have been linked to New Jersey's Keith Kinkaid and free agent Jhonas Enroth, while the Sharks job is seemingly up for grabs. Some wonder if the Sharks may opt to go in-house.

- The upcoming season feels make or break for the Boston Bruins, who have missed the playoffs two seasons in a row. Quiet rumblings out of Boston point to both the management and coaching staff being on notice that changes will be made if they don't deliver a playoff berth.

- Here's a Bruins name that keeps popping up in the rumour mill, despite it not making a ton of sense: Tuukka Rask. Dating back to last year's draft, Rask's name has surfaced from time to time. Those rumours got kickstarted again when GM Don Sweeney refused to call Rask an untouchable. Those in the Boston area believe it's a possibility. Let's put this under the "highly unlikely" rumour column, which contains names like Justin Faulk and Evgeni Malkin, but which also has distinguished graduates such as Taylor Hall and P.K. Subban.
