Bozak talks heating up? Lupul, Scrivens, more retirement announcements?

Bozak could be on the move before regular season begins

The Leafs have renewed their efforts to trade Tyler Bozak before the start of the regular season.

A few teams still have interest in adding another center and the Leafs feel they have enough NHL pivots in the mix to fill the void. Part of the Leafs rebuild plan is to give younger players like Nazem Kadri and Peter Holland increased responsibilities, making veterans like Bozak expendable.

Lupul, on the other hand...

Joffrey Lupul might be one of the hardest Leafs to trade right now. There is virtually no interest in the oft-injured winger who comes with a $5.2 million price tag for each of the next three seasons. There also isn't much desire on the part of the Leafs to retain more salary to facilitate trades. In other words, we could be waiting until the 2018 NHL trade deadline to see Lupul move.

Latest of Ben Scrivens

The Oilers continue their search for a Ben Scrivens trade in order to make room for recently-acquired goalie Anders Nilsson. Few teams around the NHL have a need in net, let alone for a goalie coming off a miserable season. This deal only gets done if Edmonton retains salary and throws in a pick. The Oilers would prefer to move Scrivens before the regular season begins, but may have to wait a while before a deal can come together.

Leopold and Ballard retirement?

Jordan Leopold is believed to be considering retirement from the NHL. The 35 year old was considered one of the better shutdown defensemen in the game in his prime.

Another rumour has defenseman Keith Ballard considering retirement as well.
