Rumour Tidbits, July 4: Is Shattenkirk available?

The talk today was all about whether St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk is available for trade. It seems like a crazy notion given his importance to the Blues this past season.

What we know is that the Blues management told Kevin recently that the rumours were false and they have no plans to trade him. But if you ask other sources, they'll say the team absolutely listened to offers on the player. The Flyers and Rangers are believed to have had discussions with the Blues at some point.

Today the message has been the same: yes he could be had in a trade, but it's highly unlikely given his importance to the Blues. With just two years left on his current deal, this is a situation worth monitoring.

It seems increasingly likely that Johnny Oduya returns to the Blackhawks...he was hoping to hit the jackpot on the UFA market but the offers haven't been as good as he had hoped.

Cody Franson remains patient; some have speculated a team or two need to clear cap space before they can offer him the money he wants. Toronto is still interested, but not at the price Franson has asked for.
