Rumour Board Update, July 1: Frenzy just getting started

The first day of NHL Free Agency began with a bang, perhaps not with quality but with quantity. GMs were relatively cautious on Day 1, with no real Clarkson-esque deals being handed out.

Plenty of guys on the UFA market getting lots of attention...Oduya, Ehrhoff and Franson holding strong and hoping to get long term contracts at 5m or more per season.

Lots of teams still kicking tires. I'm hearing the Stars are trying not to spend a ton on any of the UFA Dman, but we'll see if that changes when the market starts thinning out.

Patrick Sharp sweepstakes drag on...the Blackhawks are in no rush. Whether its tonight, tomorrow or August, Stan Bowman will wait for the right deal. Recall how long it took Columbus to trade Rick Nash to the Rangers back in 2012. It wasn't until July 23rd that it got done.
